What do you do at uWAFFLE?

Did you read the front page? We put a lot of effort into writing that and quite frankly it hurts that you just ignored it. 😥

But if you want to go a layer deeper, here’s a less tl;dr-friendly explanation.

So you’re not just about waffles?

No, we like all things edible indiscriminately!

But I like waffles!

And so do we!

Will there be free food?

Sorry, but no. Although we wish we had the resources to just give away food, that is unfortunately not the case. The cost of each event will come out of your own pocket, but of course we will be negotiating discounts and perks for all the events we organize. How much that would be will differ on a case-by-case basis. But that’s all to be expected since there are no membership fees!

Wait, so there aren’t any membership fees?

No, sir/madam! No, there are not. That’s why these events come out of your own pocket. We will handle all the planning, organization and logistics so all you need to do is just sit back and RSVP. (Please do RSVP… We don’t like surprises!) We operate on a drop-in basis so the whole idea of “membership” doesn’t really apply unless you’re a part of the executive team. Just stay in the loop and follow along. It’s that easy.

Can I bring a friend?

Sure! Just make sure they RSVP or otherwise notify us. We plan according to the head count and it’d be a little tricky if more people show up than we expected. Also, it’d be best if they’re students at UW. Otherwise things might get a little out of hand if everyone starts bringing their second cousins, brother-in-laws, and pet goats. You know what I mean?

What if I can’t make it to a meeting?

That’s totally cool. Since there are no membership fees, there’s no commitment. If you see an event that interests you, then come out and join us. If you’re not ’bout that life, then you can stay at home — we won’t mind. You can come to all the events or you can just go to one. It really doesn’t matter. Come whenever it’s convenient for you and don’t feel obligated to show up if you can’t. We believe this makes it easier because we understand that, as students, it’s hard to take that time out of your busy schedules. Isn’t that great?

Will all your events be on Thursdays? I’m busy on Thursdays.

It will depend on each event. Usually we will have a poll on the Facebook group to see what the general consensus is. It just so happens that more often than not, people opt for Thursdays. We try to accommodate as many people as we can, but unfortunately we can’t please everyone. It’s nothing personal! We want you to be there too!

What if I’m vegetarian/allergic to _____/have other dietary restrictions/etc.?

Not a problem! We will try to be as inclusive as possible with our events, so if there’s food to be consumed, we’ll do our best to have options available. Of course, do understand that there’s only so much we can do. If we go to a steakhouse and you’re going to complain about the lack of vegan options… Well, don’t be that guy.

Can you promote _____?

Sure! But what do we get out of it? Hah! Of course, our goal is to help connect and support all food lovers, so we’d love to promote your blog/club/restaurant/etc. but it’d be super nice if you helped spread the word about us too. (And if you’re a business, we’d like to talk business!) You know, because that’s what’s friends do. And we’re friends, right? Ideally, we would have similar interests and all that, so if you think you fit that bill then send us a line!

What if I don’t love food? What if I just like food? What if I don’t even like food at all?

I… what? M-my deepest condolences, dear child. If that is the case, I implore you to please join in our festivities so that we may show you the joy and wonder that you have not yet been so blessed to experience. It’s OK. We’re here for you. We’ll get through this. Together.
